Disabled Members

Anyone aged 12 or over with a disability which makes it difficult to access sailing is welcome to join. We aim to accommodate most disabilities but you should be able to board one of our boats unaided, or with limited physical assistance. Due to our location we are at present unable to install a hoist.

If you would like to join contact us first to arrange a trial sail. If you enjoy this you will be able to join as a member for the season. There is a small membership fee, and no other charge.

On arrival you will be greeted by a volunteer and asked to fill in a short form with your personal details, including any relevant disability which may affect your sailing, and give a contact number. You will then be introduced to other members and assisted to fit a lifejacket.

Once on the boat your skipper will explain the sailing plan for the day and go through a safety briefing. After that all the boats will set out for a sail lasting about 2 hours within Poole Harbour. The exact area will be dictated by the tide and wind. All disabled members will be offered a chance to helm the boat and to take part in all the other tasks necessary to sail. Informal instruction will be provided by the two experienced helpers who are always on each boat. A safety boat will accompany the fleet and can provide a swift response if needed to resolve any problems or bring someone ashore.

Children under 18 and Vulnerable Adults must be accompanied on site by a parent or carer.
